If you become a parent during your study programme, you have different options for taking a break from your studies.

Parental leave
You can apply for parental leave. Parental leave is a period during which you have the right to be exempted from teaching and exams. During this period, you also have the option of being paid parental benefit. Contact an SU supervisor if you want to hear more about parental benefits during parental leave from your study programme.
When your parental period is over, you automatically resume your studies. You can contact a student counsellor to make a plan for the rest of your study time.

Adoption
The rules for parental leave also apply in the case of adoption.
